They say that the third time is the charm, and there is nothing as charming as the Birmingham Food Club! We are back with a local brewery called Monday Night Brewing. They are located on 12th street in downtown Birmingham. When we went, my expectations were super low, I had never heard of this place before and this was kinda of a backup plan since the original place we were going to go to fell through.
Well Monday Night Brewing definitely showed me wrong. I was blown away immediately by the atmosphere that this place has. Your are greeted by a mural outside on the left side of the building that says “Its Rad To Have You In Birmingham”, with a style that can only be described as vaporwave, then when you are walking to the front of the building to go inside of it, there is a giant Monday Night Brewery + Kitchen pink neon sign hanging above the door. This place lets you know right away that it is gonna have a fun atmosphere, while also being a place that you and your friends can chill at and have a good time.
I definitley want to shoutout the wait staff that was there. They have a giant square shaped bar in the middle that you can go up and order at or they also give you “Service” tag that you can put up and they will come straight to your table to take your food or drink order. Also this being in the new times post-COVID, there were no physical menus and you could just scan a QR code on the napkin holder to bring up the full food and drink menu. They also have a smaller drink menu hanging above the bar, with a good mixture of beers, cocktails, and Narwater, which is their own homemade hard seltzer.
I was a big fan of the bar offerings! My favorite cocktail they had was called a Paloma. It contained a mixture of tequila, grapefruit juice, and sparkling mineral water brand Topo Chico. It was absolutely delicious, very refreshing and not heavy-feeling at all. Being at ten dollars ($10) it was one of the priciest drinks on the menu but it is definitely one that I will have again. In the beer/IPA/sour category, the one that takes the cake is the Dr. Robot, which is a blackberry lemon sour. It is one of the smoothest fruit sours I have ever had, also Monday Night has a modified version that turns it into a mixed drink called a Twisted Sister, which is Dr. Robot, Orange Grenadine, and vodka. Other great offerings were a Bushwacker, a fruit pilsner called Mischief Managed, and a “Space Age” Old Fashioned.
The food that was offered was a perfect compliment to the bar menu. The food menu was definitely inspired by LA taco trucks. Lots of street tacos, chips w/ a variety of dips, and nachos. My personal favorites were the fried shrimp taco, which was topped with chopped onions, drizzled with a cilantro-lime vinaigrette and the fried cauliflower taco, it was flash-fried with slaw and their comeback sauce. Both were a little on the small side, but that is what you can expect from street tacos. They also had some Mexican street food inspired deserts, with Mexican ice cream that was rolled in corn flakes, and mini-Churros with a caramel sauce to dip them in.
Overall this seems like a great place, with a big indoor and outdoor area (that is pet friendly!) a staff that was a pleasure to talk to, great food and drinks. I would definitley add this to my list of places to go and relax at after a tough day at work. It was very easy to have a good time at and just take a deep breath. It is hard to strike a balanced atmosphere that is both entertaining and fun to be at while also being chill and relaxing but somehow Monday Night does just that. I can not wait too go back and have a cauliflower taco with a Paloma again.
